Focusing on ESG

In this episode of Looking Ahead, Crowe LLP Partner Mandi Simpson talks with Al Dominick about what’s driving greater focus on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues, and explores some of the fundamentals that boards should understand. She also sheds light on how boards can consider shareholder return and balance long-term ESG strategy with a short-term view on profitability, and provides tips on how boards can better focus on this important issue.


Al Dominick

Board Member

Al Dominick serves on the board of DirectorCorps, Inc. The former CEO of Bank Director | FinXTech, he is a partner at Cornerstone Advisors.

Prior to Cornerstone and Bank Director | FinXTech, he ran the business development efforts for Computech, a Bethesda, Maryland-based information technology firm (now part of NCI — NASDAQ: NCIT). Before that, he worked for Board Member, Inc. in a variety of revenue-generating roles.

A 1999 graduate of Washington & Lee University, where he majored in Politics and was a four-year letterman on the varsity baseball team, he earned an MBA from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business in 2007.


Mandi Simpson


Mandi Simpson is a partner at Crowe LLP.  She started her career with Crowe in 2004 and has spent her entire career focused on the financial institution industry.  From 2016 to 2018, she served as a professional accounting fellow in the office of the chief accountant of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).  At the OCC, she spent much of her time on the agency’s CECL initiatives, including liaising with the standard-setters, developing and delivering examiner CECL training and working across the OCC to develop agency and interagency policies and positions.  Ms. Simpson leads Crowe’s CECL audit methodology and training initiatives and uses her significant CECL expertise to consult with financial institutions on implementation of the new standard.
