Kelly King always had a passion for leadership. In the 1980s, he wrote a thesis that served as the foundation for the leadership model at Truist Financial Corp., the Charlotte, North Carolina-based regional bank where he retired as executive chairman in 2022 and CEO in 2021. King, 76, was chairman and CEO of BB&T Corp. before it merged with SunTrust Banks to form Truist in 2019.
