Bank M&A is in Full Bloom

If the gradual winding down of the Covid-19 pandemic could be likened to spring and deals thought of as tulips, then the bank M&A market is in full bloom. The pandemic’s retreat throughout much of the country has led to a resurgence in M&A activity and placed the issue of whether to buy, sell or hold squarely on the table in many bank boardrooms. There were 70 bank M&A transactions through May of this year, compared to just 112 in all of 2020, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence. Deal valuations have rebounded as well.
