Periodic performance evaluations may cause more apprehension for corporate boards than any other issue — particularly when they involve an assessment of individual directors by their peers. Many board members fear that peer-to-peer evaluations can threaten the collegiality of the board, particularly if it’s seen as a veiled strategy for removing unpopular directors from their seats.
