Bank Director’s Acquire or Be Acquired Conference has grown over the years. At the same time, the number of U.S. banks has shrunk, says Jack Milligan, Bank Director’s editor-at-large. The 25 largest banks in the country now control around 71% of total assets, and the four biggest banks have captured the most market share. But while the biggest banks are expected to grow in the years ahead, the landscape also promises more consolidation among midsized banks — making them formidable competitors.
