Bank Director Magazine Announces Line-up for 2005 M&A Conference
Prominent Bankers and Industry Experts To Provide Insight on Banking Trends, Growth Options

December 1, 2004 – Nashville, Tenn.Bank Director magazine today announced the featured speakers for its 11th annual "Acquire or Be Acquired" conference in Scottsdale, Ariz., January 30 – February 1, 2005. The event, which has become one of the premier merger and acquisition events in the financial services industry, aims to help financial institutions determine their worth and appropriate growth strategies.

The keynote speakers for the 2005 event include William J. Ryan, chairman, president and CEO of Banknorth Group Inc., and William A. Cooper, chairman and CEO of TCF Financial Corporation. Ryan will discuss his aggressive acquisition strategy to grow Banknorth Group, which is the third largest banking company in New England and was recently named the "Best Managed Bank in America." Cooper will address how his bank is growing through de novo expansions, starting new businesses, opening new branches, and offering new products and services while focusing on "customers the others think they don't want."

New sessions for 2005 will address methods for achieving growth without acquisitions and investigative strategies for due diligence. More breakout sessions and new discussion groups will offer conference participants the opportunity to interact and learn from fellow bankers and experts on topics such as: balance sheet strategies, the private versus public company dilemma, hidden costs of M&A, FAS 141 valuations issues, deal structuring, increasing shareholder returns, and management and board of director planning.
